Three things fixed it:
Sleep posture. One pillow, neutral spine. Stopped curling into the side.
Daily exercises. Neck and upper-back mobility, plus McKenzie press-ups for the worst weeks.
The Herman Miller Aeron.
The Aeron isn’t just comfortable. It actively corrects you. The back contour and the lumbar support make slouching feel wrong — you sit up because the chair won’t let you not. After a few weeks, my default posture changed even when I wasn’t sitting in it.

Herman Miller started as a furniture shop in Zeeland, Michigan, in 1905. By mid-century the company was home to Eames, Nelson, Noguchi — quietly responsible for half the chairs you’ve seen in design museums.
The Aeron launched in 1994, designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick. People hated the look at first — a skeletal mesh thing with no foam, no leather, no warmth. Then the dot-com boom hit, every startup bought twenty, and the chair became shorthand for “we’re hiring.” When the bubble burst, eBay flooded with them.
It was the first chair ever inducted into MoMA’s permanent collection. Thirty-plus years later, still in production.
Worth every dollar.
